Bulk Earthworks Expert in NSW

Bulk Earthworks is a very important part in civil projects. CBEM Constructions provides large-scale bulk earthworks services with full compliance, experienced teams and reliable project capability.

Why Bulk Earthworks Matter

Bulk earthworks aren’t just about moving dirt—they’re the foundation of every successful construction project. Whether you’re subdividing land, building roads, excavating basements, or levelling platforms, proper earthmoving ensures stability, drainage, and long-term durability. Poorly executed earthworks can lead to costly delays, structural issues, or even compliance headaches down the track. That’s why we take a precision approach, making sure every cut, fill, and compaction meets the highest standards before the next phase begins.

Our Bulk Earthworks Capabilities

We take a “right first time” approach to earthworks: balance on site where possible, move material once, and document every step so it stands up to audit. All works are planned against the design model and built under recognised Australian standards with clear hold/witness points and test records.

Cut & Fill Operations

We start with a digital ground model and cut/fill map to plan soil balance by zone. The aim is simple: minimise haul distance and double-handling while keeping traffic flows safe and efficient. We stage works in thin layers, assign nearby fill targets first, and separate stockpiles by material class (topsoil, general fill, rock) for easy reuse or disposal. GPS machine control keeps the finished surface on grade and reduces rework.

Compaction & Quality Assurance

Compaction is executed and verified to AS 3798 (Level 1/Level 2 as specified) with testing to AS 1289. We control moisture, lift thickness and roller passes, then verify density and strength at the specified frequency per lot/zone. A geotechnical engineer provides inspection and conformance reporting.

  • Test methods: Nuclear density/sand replacement for MDD/field density; CBR where required; proof rolling records.
  • Hold/witness points: Subgrade approval, first‐lift trial, test frequency sign-off, non-conformance close-out.
  • Documentation: Lot register, test results, plans showing test locations, daily ITP checklists.
  • Handover: AS 3798 conformance report with traceable results and approvals.

Drainage & OSD Works

Earthworks are sequenced with temporary drains and sediment controls so platforms stay trafficable and clean. We excavate and trim OSD basins/pits to design levels, protect liners and penetrations, and coordinate inlet/outlet structures with the hydraulics package. Subsoil drains, filter blankets and outlet scour protection are installed as we build up, not after, so water has a safe path during rain.

We align materials and treatments with TfNSW D&C R44 (Earthworks) where applicable—select fill classes, subgrade treatments, proof rolling and testing—so downstream pavement and drainage assets receive compliant foundations.

Rock Excavation & Disposal

Rock is assessed and classified (rippable/medium/hard). We prefer hydraulic breaking and ripping; where blasting is required, it’s done under an approved plan with vibration/airblast/dust monitoring and neighbour notifications. Faces are trimmed to design, and any overbreak is backfilled with approved material.

Spoil is tracked with load dockets and chain-of-custody to licensed receivers; reusable material is processed on site where permitted (e.g., crushed rock for working platforms).

Bulk Earthworks Risk Management & Site Challenges

  • Groundwater: We manage site risks with early groundwater control—base drainage and filter trenches—to keep the formation dry, with pump rates monitored and all discharges logged to approved outlets
  • Soft subgrades: Where soft subgrades are encountered, we apply targeted remediation—swap-out, pre-loading, or geogrid reinforcement—and stage the works to control settlement.
  • Weather: Weather is handled under a wet-weather plan that sets covers, temporary drains, sediment controls, and clear stop/start triggers.
  • Neighbour impacts: To minimise neighbour impacts, we implement noise and dust controls, manage haul routes, schedule time-windowed works, and issue advance notifications.

Bulk Earthworks FAQs

We control lift thickness and rolling passes, then test moisture and density to the AS 1289 series. Each conforming layer is recorded and released via ITR; anything short is reworked and retested.

Layer ITP/ITRs, laboratory/field test reports (AS 1289), survey checks (coords/levels), material compliance, photo records, and a reconciled earthworks volume report at completion.

By balancing cut and fill early, zoning the works to keep material nearby, and sequencing to avoid double handling. Only unsuitable or regulated material is scheduled for licensed export; suitable surpluses are reused where practical.
